How Recruiters Can Use Video to Fill Their Roles

About this video

Recruiting has gotten harder, and text posts alone no longer cut through. Video is where attention has moved, and recruiters who use it consistently build a brand that outworks cold calls, mass emails and AI phone screeners. If people already feel like they know you from your content, they pick up the phone when you call.

The reasoning covers why video works, how to structure one, and how to start without expensive equipment. Key points include:

  • Video retention beats text by a wide margin, and most marketers already treat it as a core channel; audiences consistently say they want more short-form video, not less.
  • LinkedIn is pushing hard into a short-form video feed, and watch-time metrics on a five-minute video can rack up tens of thousands of minutes of attention, far outpacing the return on a typical text post.
  • One video can be repurposed across LinkedIn, TikTok, Instagram and other platforms, multiplying the return on a single piece of content.
  • A strong video opens with a hook that states the topic immediately, follows with a quick credibility line, then delivers with energy and minimal filler.
  • Good topics include industry news, the problems candidates and hiring managers actually face along with practical solutions, humor, and documentary-style footage that pulls hiring managers into the process.
  • A phone camera, natural light, a basic editing app and an inexpensive microphone are enough to get started; expensive gear is not required.
  • Recording in short segments rather than attempting a single long take makes filming far less stressful and prevents having to restart after a small mistake.
  • The first three to five seconds determine whether most viewers stay, since a large share of drop-off happens almost immediately.
  • Improvement comes from volume and iteration: posting often, studying creators who are already succeeding in the space, testing different formats, and giving each approach time before judging whether it works.

The underlying argument is that recruiters who build visibility beyond their day-to-day placements add value the business can see, gain more credibility with hiring managers and leadership, and create a channel that keeps generating leads long after a single video is posted.
