About this video

Attracting diverse talent takes more than a mission statement, and the tactics that move the needle are concrete: leadership engagement, employee resource groups, simplified processes, and honest reporting on what's working.

  • Start with leadership. Ask executives to show up in unexpected places, like resume review meetings, rather than just issuing statements. Engagement and speed increase when leaders have visible skin in the game.
  • Partner with employee resource groups. Groups representing women, veterans, people of color, LGBTQ+ employees, and people with disabilities often have deep networks that extend far beyond their own industries. A push to find Chinese-speaking candidates succeeded largely because an internal resource group connected the effort to community newspapers and vlogs.
  • Keep the process simple. Diversity sourcing should run alongside general sourcing, not as a separate, cumbersome track. Staying consistent produces results faster than treating it as an add-on.
  • Know the employee value proposition. Candidates from every background respond to the same basic questions about culture, pay, and working conditions. Policies, flexible arrangements, and community work should be presented to everyone rather than assumed to appeal only to certain groups.
  • Build cultural awareness into outreach. Small gestures, such as learning correct name pronunciation, plus recognition of multicultural observances, can strengthen a brand without a large budget.
  • Use new tools carefully. Sentiment analysis can flag biased language in job specs. Talent rediscovery through AI-scanned databases and virtual community events can surface overlooked candidates, but screening still matters since these tools can't judge cultural fit and can introduce their own bias.
  • Report pipeline health in detail. Breaking down candidates by remote-work willingness, relocation interest, and readiness stage gives managers more useful information than raw counts, and helps move high-potential candidates through faster.
  • Track long-term impact. Beyond time-to-fill and cost savings, look at promotion rates, entry into leadership development programs, and engagement survey results to show the lasting effect of sourcing work.

Looking ahead, sourcing is expected to stretch across borders, requiring teams to build relationships globally and partner across the enterprise on relocation, family support, and other packages that make offers competitive.
