Quantity and Quality: Thriving in High-Volume Hiring Environments

About this video

Filling thousands of frontline positions a year takes more than posting a job and waiting for applications to roll in. High-volume hiring works best when marketing, screening, and retention are treated as one connected system rather than separate steps.

  • Match the platform to the audience. Facebook reaches parents, so messaging aimed at them talks about culture and opportunity for their kids. Instagram and TikTok reach the teens and young adults actually applying, so short, casual selfie-style videos from current employees work better than polished ads.
  • Build branded content instead of letting reviews speak for you. If a company doesn't control its own story, candidates fill in the gaps with whatever they find on Glassdoor. Putting out authentic video and messaging about daily work and culture gives applicants something real to react to.
  • Use realistic job previews to filter early. Letting candidates see and feel what a role actually involves before applying produces more no's up front, but those no's are a good thing. Fewer mismatched hires means less churn later and a recruiter's time goes further.
  • Be honest about the hard parts of a job. Vague postings that hide unpleasant duties create fast turnover once someone discovers what the work actually involves. Transparency about both the tough parts and the genuine perks builds trust before day one.
  • Recognize gig work as the real competitor. Marketplace apps offer instant pay and total flexibility, which traditional employers can't match directly. What they can offer instead is a sense of belonging, benefits, and a visible path upward, and that case needs to be made explicitly to candidates weighing both options.
  • Promote from within as a retention strategy. Frontline hires who see store managers, regional directors, and even the CEO as people who started in entry-level roles get real proof that growth is possible, not just a slogan on a careers page.
Retention starts with the job posting.

The common thread across every tactic is treating high-volume hiring as a preference-driven process. Candidates today have more choices than ever, and the companies that win are the ones that communicate clearly, filter honestly, and give people a reason to stay past their first paycheck.
