The TA Knowledge Gap: 4 Actions for Remote Talent Acquisition

November 14, 2023 · Webinars ·

About this video

Recruiting teams working remotely face a widening gap between what talent acquisition professionals know how to do and what modern hiring actually requires. Closing that gap means treating TA as more than a numbers game and building systems, resources, and culture that support recruiters as people, not just producers of metrics.

Four practical areas of focus emerge for teams looking to modernize their recruiting operation:

  • Automation and efficiency: Workflow automation inside an ATS or HRIS can carry a candidate through eight to ten touchpoints across email, text, and phone before they're marked nonresponsive. A message acknowledging a lack of response consistently generates replies, even from candidates who had gone quiet for weeks.
  • Employer brand impact: Automated prompts asking for Google reviews at multiple stages of the candidate journey, including from candidates who were never placed or even submitted to a hiring manager, can move a company's review volume and rating dramatically over a couple of years. Negative reviews get a personal phone call from leadership rather than being ignored.
  • Workflow milestones as KPIs: Rather than tracking raw call counts or activity metrics, mapping a submittal-to-hire ratio (such as four submittals per hire) and watching for stalls at each pipeline stage lets leaders spot bottlenecks and jump straight into problem-solving instead of chasing status updates.
  • Habits over setup: Building a sophisticated automated workflow only pays off if the team actually works within it consistently. Reinforcing those habits through regular team discussion keeps the system from gridlocking hires and performance.

Underneath all of this sits a question rarely raised in TA leadership circles: whether the spirit and wellbeing of the recruiter is ever treated as a focal point of the culture, or whether the conversation stays locked on KPIs and performance metrics. Addressing that directly, alongside remote learning resources and dedicated project teams, rounds out an approach to talent acquisition built for distributed teams and long-term retention of recruiting talent itself.
