About this video

Building a following on LinkedIn has less to do with clever content than with showing up every day. The habits that turn a personal profile into a recruiting asset are practical, repeatable, and mostly free of gimmicks.

  • Consistency beats quality. Posting once a day, or spacing two posts into morning and evening, outperforms sporadic bursts. Most people see a post once and stop; the accounts that grow keep showing up even when engagement seems flat.
  • Original content wins over reshares. Sharing someone else's post typically gets weak engagement compared to writing your own take. Video also tends to underperform on the platform, partly because most people scroll without sound or captions.
  • Tone matters. Corporate copy-and-paste language falls flat, and so does anything trying too hard to be casual or edgy. A plain, personal voice in between those extremes tends to land best.
  • Stories and selfies outperform polish. First-person storytelling tied to real experience gets people to stop scrolling. A genuine photo of a face, taken in the moment, consistently beats posed group shots, dog pictures, or stock imagery.
  • Memes work. Recruiting- and workplace-themed memes, even borrowed from other accounts, tend to perform well and don't require original creative effort every time.
  • Reply fast. Responding to comments within thirty minutes of posting helps a post get boosted by the algorithm. Commenting on other people's posts with a few real words, rather than a one-word reply or emoji, also increases visibility.
  • Offer help publicly. Posts offering mock interviews, resume reviews, or introductions build trust and reputation faster than posts asking for help, and often lead back to unexpected opportunities.
  • Diversify platforms. Since any account can be suspended or lost, mirroring content elsewhere protects the work already put in.

None of this requires a marketing budget or a production team. It requires a repeatable rhythm, a recognizable voice, and a willingness to post the unglamorous, specific details of daily work rather than polished corporate messaging.
