Rather than complex Boolean strings, the approach favors simple, plain-language searches that Google and site-specific engines can interpret well. A recurring technique is the site search, typing something like site:linkedin.com/in along with job titles and seniority keywords, which produces a far cleaner list of real profiles than a standard LinkedIn search bar query. The same string can be adapted for other profile databases, such as Zoom Info, by recognizing the URL patterns each platform uses to designate an individual profile page.
Once a promising profile turns up, the next step is enrichment. Free lookup sites are demonstrated as workable substitutes when paid tools aren't available:
- People-search sites that surface personal phone numbers, personal emails, addresses, and even relatives, useful for building outreach or text campaigns
- Region-specific alternatives for searches outside the US, since coverage and available data fields vary by country
- Social-profile lookup tools that pull together a person's LinkedIn, blog, and other public social accounts from a single search
For larger candidate lists, web scraping replaces one-by-one lookups. The overall approach favors starting broad, testing how difficult a search will be across a couple of platforms early, then narrowing with keywords and locations added incrementally. Location filters, geographic variations, and paying attention to how a platform formats its own results all factor into getting better matches without over-engineering the search string from the start.
