About this video

Sourcing and recruiting work can quietly eat up a huge share of a person's waking life, and it is easy for that time to pass without much sense of meaning or direction. A set of simple, repeatable mental practices offers a way to bring more intentionality into daily work, starting with well-being rather than tactics or tools.

The core framework is built around three questions: why, what, and who.

  • Why is about surfacing the real motivation behind the work, not just the first answer that comes to mind but the second or third, deeper one that actually explains what drives a person to show up each day.
  • What is the concrete end goal. Without a clear destination, it is nearly impossible to chart a path toward it, the same way a rideshare app is useless without an address.
  • Who is the version of yourself you are becoming in order to meet that goal. It means being honest about the challenges ahead and consciously choosing to be the hero of your own story rather than a passive character in it.

Alongside this framework sits a mental walkthrough practice, the kind of visualization used by athletes and astronauts to prime behavior before high-pressure moments. Picturing how you want to feel and act before a meeting, a transition, or a difficult conversation produces measurable gains in composure and readiness, even without physically rehearsing anything.

A related tool, called R3, gives a structured way to process interactions that did not go well:

  1. Reflect on what happened, asking what went well and where the friction was.
  2. Reframe the moment by identifying what was learned and what could be done differently next time.
  3. Reset by mentally visualizing yourself moving through that same interaction as your ideal self.

Practicing this sequence prevents old, unresolved interactions from draining energy in the present. Instead of replaying a tense conversation for days or years, the exercise builds the muscle to respond with more thoughtfulness the next time something similar happens.

The challenges do not stop. What changes is the response to them.

Taken together, these habits offer sourcing professionals a way to return to their work with more clarity, less reactivity, and a stronger sense of purpose behind the daily grind of building teams and companies.
